This album is a compilation of two separate groups of Jangam Jogis. Wandering ascetic followers of the Lord Shiva (Hindu Deity), the Jangam Jogis travel across India spreading and propagating the Shivite tradition. Rejecting the material world, their aim is to attain self-realization or a higher state of being. Being Wanderers, their instruments are small and portable and include the Dafli (light drum), Khanjari (tambourine), Khartal (small hand held cymbals) etc. Their music, reflecting the simplicity of their lives, has evolved along with their community and is easily recognized across the country. No melodic instruments are used, rather the melody is a repetitive chant which is sung by the Jogis. This album features five songs from two different groups of Jangam Jogis and displays the raw, rustic nature of this genre.
