A devotional style that has existed for hundreds of years, Bhajans are popular across India. Sung in praise and worship of saints, deities or the almighty, usually, they are strung to a simple rhythm and folk instruments like Chimta, and Manjeera. Tracing their origin to the words of the Sama Veda, a Hindu sacred text, Bhajans have since then been composed by innumerable saints and writers and poets in India in multiple languages and different faiths. This album features Sardar Surjeet Singh and group, Bhajan Mandali performers belonging to the Sikh tradition. Their songs are both philosophical and spiritual and represent a part of the Mystical nature of Punjabi music. The notes of the Tumbi give the Bhajans the regional, Punjabi character.
