Punjabi folk music is replete with tragic love stories that speak both of the fervor in the blood of its denizens and also the conservative social structures. Either episode is sung from the stories strung to folk tunes or they are referred to in spiritual renditions to provide examples for tenets of life. These tales are sung in genres spanning from the folk to Sufi to story-telling and to the Qawwali. This album features these songs of love, longing, and separation at times to the accompaniment to the simple Ghada, Chimta, and Tumbi and yet others to the Harmonium and Tabla or the Jogiya Sarangi and Dauru.
